Advisory Board

Genesis has assembled an all-star team of specialists that are championing the company's endeavors. Genesis has developed strong relationships with several Key Opinion Leaders (KOL's) in the interventional cardiovascular field, among both Interventional Cardiologists and Radiologists. The Genesis team of physicians is experts in the field of occlusive vascular disease intervention.

The team includes:

James D. Joye, DO, FACC, Founder
John R. Laird, MD, FACC, FACP
Michael D. Dake, MD
Richard E. Fulton, M.D., Founder and Director

James D. Joye, DO, FACC, Founder
Dr. Joye is Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Labs at El Camino Hospital and serves as Director of Peripheral Vascular Interventions at The Cardiovascular Institute in Mountain View, CA. He received his B.S. from Westminster College in New Wilmington, PA and his D.O. from Ohio University in Athens, OH.  He completed his post-doctoral training at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh. PA.

Dr. Joye maintains a busy interventional practice that focuses primarily on peripheral intervention. He has performed over 500 carotid stent procedures, largely under the provisions of FDA sponsored trials, and has assisted with device development pertinent to the field. Dr. Joye was an early proponent of the use of simulation in physician training and favors a practical, case-based approach to education.

During the past 8 years, Dr. Joye has trained over 250 physicians (IC, VS, IR) under the auspices of Interventional Insights, a recurring 2-day hands-on PVD preceptorship. He also serves as a Course Director for Vascular Interventional Advances (VIVA), The National Education Course for Peripheral Vascular Intervention.

Dr. Joye remains active in peripheral vascular research and new device development. He is credited with the development of cryoplasty for infrainguinal arterial disease, and percutaneous bypass of lower extremity occlusive disease.  Ongoing interests include embolic protection in renal artery intervention, advanced techniques for limb salvage, and acute stroke intervention.

John R. Laird, MD, FACC, FACP
John R. Laird is Professor of Medicine and Director of the Clinical Vascular Program at the University of California, Davis Medical Center. Dr. Laird moved to UC Davis after spending 10 years at the Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC. While there he served as the Director of Peripheral Vascular Interventions at the Cardiovascular Research Institute and as the Co-Director of the Center for Vascular Care at the Washington Hospital Center.

Dr. Laird is a leader in the field of peripheral vascular intervention and has published extensively on the subject. He has served as the Principal Investigator for several important clinical trials and has lectured internationally on a variety of topics related to endovascular interventions. His research interests include new stents for peripheral vascular applications, laser angioplasty, carotid artery intervention and embolic protection, stent-grafts for the treatment of abdominal and thoracic aortic aneurysms, gene therapy/therapeutic angiogenesis, and Cryoplasty.

Michael D. Dake, MD
Dr. Dake is Chairman and Professor of Radiology at the University of Virginia. Dr. Dake previously served as Chief of Interventional Radiology and Co-Director of Cath/Angio Laboratories at Stanford University Medical Center as well as Associate Professor of Radiology at Stanford University School of Medicine. A graduate of Harvard College, he went on to earn his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine in 1978. Dr. Dake received his residency training in internal medicine at Baylor College of Medicine and in pulmonary medicine and radiology at UCSF. He served as Assistant Professor of Radiology at UCSF from 1987 to 1988 and as Clinical Associate in Radiology at the University of Miami from 1988 to 1990. Dr. Dake has done pioneering work in the field of endovascular therapies for arterial and venous disease. His stent-graft technique, for example, has gained international attention. Dr. Dake is the author of more than 300 journal articles and 70 textbook chapters.

Richard E. Fulton, M.D., Founder and Director
Dr. Fulton is an experienced Interventional Radiologist from Grand Junction, Colorado and a prolific inventor with 35 U.S. and foreign patents.
