Funnel Catheter Embolectomy technology, F.A.S.T. (Facilitated Aspiration/Suction Thrombectomy) Product Offers Promise of Improved Outcomes and Quality of Life
Redwood City, CA -- June 14, 2005 Genesis Medical Interventional, Inc. (Genesis) today received the prestigious Medical Design Excellence Award (MDEA), recognized as the premier award program for the health and medical technology community at the Jacob Javits Convention Center in New York City. Sponsored by Medical Device & Diagnostics Industry magazine, the award honors the world's most innovative products changing the face of healthcare. MDEA awards are offered in 10 categories ranging from critical care and emergency products to implant devices and surgical equipment. Past winners of the MDEA include GE Medical Systems, Johnson & Johnson, Philips Electronics and Roche Diagnostics.
"We are honored to receive this award and to be in such good company," said William Dubrul, CEO. "It is valuable confirmation to our team, partners and customers that we have created a world class medical device that can really help people. This award is the medical device equivalent of an Oscar."
The award winning F.A.S.T. Funnel Catheter from Genesis removes emboli and thrombi from the arteries of people which could otherwise have very significant deleterious effects.
There have been significant efforts to develop catheters and filters that attempt to remove these damaging particles. Unlike competitor devices, the F.A.S.T. system provides Focused Aspiration through a magic funnel at the tip of the catheter or sheath creating. Genesis estimates that the potential market for embolic and thromboembolic management is over $1 billion.
"Based on the technologies' initial use and our pre-clinical work, we are hopeful that F.A.S.T. will become the product of choice for Minimally Invasive Interventionalists to prevent embolic proliferation," stated William Dubrul, President and CEO of Genesis Medical Interventional, Inc. " This uniquely simple Funnel Catheter, offers interventionalists what they have been lacking in previous products; the ability to simply and quickly occlude and un-occlude the vessel. We are excited to bring F.A.S.T. to our customers and patients."
About Genesis Medical Interventional, Inc. Genesis Medical Interventional, Inc. (Genesis) is a privately held company developing products, based on its minimally invasive Funnel Catheter platform technologies, to remove thrombi and emboli from the vasculature. The company believes its technologies will have applications in many major medical markets.
The Genesis F.A.S.T. Funnel Catheter system is a simple funnel catheter that occludes blood flow and stops blood pressure prior to entering the interventional site. Before entering the lesion with even a small guide wire, the Genesis F.A.S.T. Funnel Catheter system temporarily occludes proximally with the funnel catheter . By temporarily stopping blood flow, emboli that are loosened cannot travel downstream because there is no downstream. The funnel gently deploys against the inner wall of the vessel using the patient's own blood pressure to create the occlusion in the vessel. The device also allows the physician to use the funnel to remove emboli and thrombi from the treated vessel by using simple aspiration from a syringe.
