Washington, CA -- October 2008 Yesterday in the Main Arena of the Transcather Cardiovascular Therapeutics (TCT) Symposium, with standing room only, data was presented from the PREPARE trial which evaluated Proximal Occlusion Embolic Protection in patients having Acute Myocardial Infarction (AMI). Not only did Proximal Occlusion demonstrate feasibility and safety in AMI patients, but it also revealed statistically significant reduction in what is considered the most important parameter in measuring the cellular damage of the heart during the heart attack. The data showed 130% improvement in ST-segment resolution, the parameter most physicians use to measure success in using an embolic protection device.
Founder of Genesis Medical Interventional, Inc. (GMI) and inventor of the F.A.S.T. Funnel Catheter, Dr. Richard Fulton said, "These results validate GMI's approach, and really open the door to the success of the company and the F.A.S.T. system. We could not be happier with the trial results for Proximal Occlusion Embolic Protection."
GMI exhibited in the Emerging Technologies area at TCT 2008 this week and will be presenting at the Medtech Insight Investment In Innovation (In3) East, Thursday, October 23, 2008. The In3 Conference will be held at the Westin Copley Place in Boston, MA. "The Medtech presentation comes at an exciting time for Genesis," said Brent Seybold, VP of Product Development. "This year we finalized a rewarding licensing agreement with Micrus Endovascular (MEND) for use of our F.A.S.T. Funnel Catheter technology for the treatment of Stroke, a significant disease and market. And now we have positive and relevant data that supports our technology platform in the treatment of AMI."
About the F.A.S.T Funnel Catheter System The Genesis F.A.S.T. Funnel Catheter System is a line of innovative medical devices comprised of a funnel deployed at the distal end of the catheter through which a physician can deploy a proprietary clot retrieval system with an umbrella or parachute-like device. This novel design harnesses a patient's blood pressure to provide the sealing force for occlusion. Clots and other debris are removed and the device is then collapsed and removed from the patient.
