The Genesis F.A.S.T.™ Funnel Catheter™ is a line of innovative medical devices comprised of a magic funnel deployed at the distal end of the catheter.
How it Works
The F.A.S.T. Funnel Catheter employs a novel design that harnesses native blood pressure to provide the sealing force for occlusion. Upon deployment, the funnel occluder expands allowing blood to flow through the proximal, open portion, filling the distal impermeable section and driving it against the vessel wall. Since the force of occlusion is determined by the patient's blood pressure, the minimal force of occlusion is applied to the vessel wall regardless of the vessel size. As its name indicates, as the funnel occluder is deployed in the vasculature the distal end forms a cone shape to help facilitate complete aspiration of emboli and thrombi.
Combining the occlusion of blood flow and the funnel shape, the F.A.S.T. Funnel Catheter enables the physician to perform Focused Aspiration™, directing maximum aspirative force to the target location.
The handles at the proximal end of the catheter allow the physician to mechanically deploy and collapse the funnel occluder, resulting in Instant-On / Instant-Off occlusion. That is, flow can be stopped and restored instantaneously at any time without the delay commonly associated with compliant balloon systems.
Clinically, the device has been engineered for simplicity. The Funnel Catheter is positioned proximal to a lesion over a .018" or smaller guidewire. The occluder is deployed, stopping flow. Emboli and thrombi are then aspirated through the larger centeral lumen with the use of a standard syringe connect at the handle. Once the debris has been evacuated, the device is collapsed and removed from the patient.
